Maude's Cafe Information

Tucked into downtown Gainesville at Maude's Cafe, Maude's Cafe feels like the kind of place you stumble into once and then keep coming back to without much thought. The location is easy to find, just off the main stretch, and it carries that relaxed, slightly artsy energy that fits right in with the local vibe. Walking in, the atmosphere leans cozy and eclectic, with mismatched seating, local artwork on the walls, and the hum of quiet conversation blending with the clink of coffee cups.

The menu isn’t overly complicated, which honestly works in its favor. It focuses on comfort food staples done well-think hearty breakfast options, fresh sandwiches, and a rotating selection of baked goods that actually taste homemade. Their coffee selection stands out, especially if you’re someone who cares about a properly brewed cup. On my visit, the latte had that smooth, balanced flavor you’d expect from a place that knows its beans, not too bitter and not overly sweet. It’s the kind of drink you can sip slowly while people-watching by the window.

Food-wise, the portions are generous without feeling excessive. A simple breakfast plate comes with eggs cooked just right, toast that isn’t an afterthought, and sides that feel intentional rather than filler. One of the more memorable items was a turkey sandwich layered with fresh ingredients and bread that had just enough crunch on the outside. It’s not trying to reinvent anything, but it doesn’t need to-the quality speaks for itself.

Service is friendly in a way that feels genuine rather than scripted. Staff members seem to know regulars by name, and even as a first-time visitor, it didn’t take long to feel welcomed. Orders come out at a comfortable pace, and there’s no pressure to rush, which makes it a great spot whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a longer stay with a book or laptop.

Reviews from locals tend to echo the same sentiment: it’s reliable, unpretentious, and consistently good. It may not have the flash of trendier spots, but that’s part of its charm. If anything, the only limitation is that it can get a bit busy during peak hours, so finding a seat might take a little patience.

What People's Say About Place

I drove 45 minutes from Ocala and was not disappointed. This place was recommended to me by a coworker. I loved the atmosphere! I came alone to do some work but would love to have been with friends and played a board game! I ordered the Maude's iced coffee and I went into the backroom, which was a bit quieter. They have free wifi and every table has an outlet! I was super productive, and I credit that to this cafe. For lunch, i ordered the "fancy quesadilla" and a red velevet cupcake and stepped outside to enjoy the nice seating area. Yummy. If I find myself in Gainsville again, I will stop back by.

There is no way not to absolutely adore this quaint coffee shop. It's located in the Sun Center Easr adjacent to Gainesville's historic Hypodrome Theatre. It's across the street from Starbucks which is nationally known. But keep strolling past that famous place if you want better food, coffee and ambiance. Even the prices are better. I purchased coffee and multiple pastries last night so when I wake up early the next morning I'll be able to sit on my terrace overlooking Maude's and relax knowing I'm lucky to have shopped there. Great food, delightful wait staff and a cozy interior that will make you want to sit and relax.

This is a cute and cozy coffee shop. There are a variety of coffees here to choose from. If you visit Downtown Gainesville, you can surely give this coffee place a try. Outdoor seating is also available.

love the vibe here, the employees are friendly and they many selection for cakes which I love very much. The setting of the tables are also interesting, good place to stay for afternoons with large or small groups or just by yourself

This is such a great place to study! The coffee is great and the food is pretty good too. It is a bit pricey, but for the ambience and location I think it is worth it.

Chill vibe, during school time it's mostly full of students study. The coffee is pretty good, light food like sandwiches, bagels, muffins, cake.. When it's not too full you can have a nice cup of coffee when sitting outside around cute small plaza. (relatively more quiet)

Great drinks, and came out fast! We ordered sandwiches that were each pretty expensive, waited around 30 minutes for them—but when we received them, we noticed that each of them were pretty flat and didn’t have much food in them at all. I ordered a BLT with a very flat single tomato, and about 2 pieces of bacon for about $12. Just wish they added some more actual food in the food we ordered. Good place otherwise, but please consider making the sandwiches more worth the money. Thanks!

Maude's Cafe serves up an absolutely delicious chocolate cheesecake. The rich chocolate flavor is balanced perfectly with the creamy cheesecake, making for an indulgent dessert that will leave you feeling satisfied without feeling overly full. The texture of the cheesecake is also spot on, with a creamy, velvety smoothness that melts in your mouth. The Ice Chai Latte is another great offering at Maude's Cafe. The chai flavor is strong and authentic, and the iced version is perfect for a hot summer day. The latte is well-balanced and not too sweet, making it a refreshing and satisfying pick-me-up. Overall, Maude's Cafe is definitely worth a visit for the chocolate cheesecake and Ice Chai Latte alone.
